5 Things to do in New York State this Spring

What better way to mark the beginning of spring than by venturing into the looping valleys, natural wonders and beaches that make up New York State. Explore the vast and fascinating history that took place in New York State, plenty of which helped shape the country of the US that we know today. Relax and enjoy the very best culinary delights on offer – or explore the 2,000 miles of hiking and biking trails that are just waiting to be discovered. Visit the Historic Sites of New York State

New York State is simply full of history and landmarks to explore. Whether you love history or want to find out more about the history of the US – New York State is the ideal place to start. Visit the historic grounds of the Saratoga Battlefield, which is within the Saratoga National Historic Park. This battlefield is a monument to the American soldiers who fought and won the battle against British Invasion in 1777 during the American War of Independence. You can even visit Victory Woods, which is where the British Army retreated. This well preserved land is the perfect opportunity to see for yourself a monumental turning point of the Revolutionary War.

New York State not only has history from the Revolutionary War, but from all periods of history. Seneca Falls housed the first ever Women’s Rights Convention in 1848 – which would go on to form the suffrage movement and finally gave white women across America the vote in 1920. A visit to Seneca Falls is a must if you are looking to see the beginnings of women’s history in the US. Visit Rochester to visit the home of Susan B. Anthony, a prominent social rights activist; visit the home of Eleanor Roosevelt, the former first lady, which is a National Historic Site. Auburn is the home of Harriet Tubman, who was awarded her former Auburn home by the New York Senator, visit this site to learn of the immense work and strength of Harriet Tubman throughout her life.

Niagara Falls


Niagara Falls is one of the most impressive natural locations in the world, and should definitely be visited while you are in New York State. Visit the Niagara Falls State Park to get up close and personal with the falls with the Cave of the Winds experience, here you can travel through the Niagara Gorge and get just 20 feet from underneath the water. Or take to the water yourself with the thrilling Maid of the Mist boat ride. Any trip to Niagara Falls is not one you will forget any time soon. 12 million visitors head to Niagara every year and it is no wonder why, with 3,160 tons of water flowing over Niagara Falls every second. 

Vineyards and Wine-tasting



There is arguably no better way to explore New York State than by venturing into the warm vineyards that cover the land. There are vineyards all throughout New York State, so you really will be spoilt for choice when it comes to that perfect glass of wine. Pick from the many wineries in Eire Lake surrounded by idyllic rolling hills, or the Finger Lakes which has over 120 wineries on offer or spend your day sampling the very best on offer in the Hamptons – attend this year’s Buffalo Wine Festival, filled with 14 delightful wineries and great food to sample all day long. One winery you certainly don’t want to miss out on is America’s oldest winery – Brotherhood. Established in 1839 and managing to survive Prohibition and the Great Depression, tour the historic winery and underground cellars before having a try of some of America’s oldest vintages for yourself. 

The Thousands Islands


The Thousand Islands of New York State are a unique blending of culture and nature, a stunning mixture of the St. Lawrence River and Great Lake Ontario. The woods and waters are simply unlike anywhere else on Earth and it’s not surprising why visitors keep returning to the area with its fresh air and charming community. The Thousand Islands are a paradise for freshwater exploring, sightseeing and relaxing. Spend your days kayaking, hiking, boating and camping throughout this slice of natural wonder in New York State. 

Explore the Natural Wonders 


Visit the endless natural wonders all over New York State, from miles of hiking trails, to scenic views from high above – there is certainly no shortage of nature to be explored whilst you are in New York State. To see the iconic views of the Hudson Valley and Shawangunk Ridge, visit Mohonk Preserve, which boasts 70 miles of trails and historic carriage routes. Take your time exploring this preserve of 8,000 acres, biking along or even take in the views from horseback, or try some rock climbing along the world famous Gunks Cliffs. There is an endless amount of exploration to be done in this Preserve and the natural wonder does not end there, with open parks and beaches all over New York State. Spend the long summer evenings at parks such as Brooklyn Bridge Park or at Million Dollar Beach on Lake George, there really are an endless amount of state parks to explore and relax in, surrounded by greenery and clear waters.
