The Great Outdoors of Arkansas

Arkansas is known as the Natural State for good reason. You can’t ignore the gorgeous, bold surroundings at every turn! A visit to this verdant state really is the perfect chance to see and explore some amazingly diverse natural wonders, such as simply outstanding national and state parks, lakes, mountains and our favourite, natural springs! Arkansas is the perfect place to escape to, with gorgeous lodges and hotels nestled amongst the natural beauty, you will truly feel like you are in another world. The state of Arkansas really is the best out there when it comes to exploring the great outdoors – with endless opportunities at every turn. The whole family really can relax and rejuvenate, or just as easily, have some amazing adventures on the wide lakes or incredible parks! Arkansas is a true gem for all outdoor and natural exploration, have a read below at the places we know you cannot miss out on during your visit.

The Ozark Mountains

The Ozark Mountains are truly something you have to see for yourself to understand their amazing beauty. Breathe the crisp mountain air and explore the different mountain routes, weaving your way through the incredible scenery and atmosphere that envelop these iconic mountains. Travel towards Arkansas’ amazing Natural Bridge, a natural formation made of sandstone and a real geological wonder! This unique, fascinating bridge surrounded by the luscious Ozark pines and streams, is really only the beginning of Arkansas abundance of natural wonders. Continue your journey through the Ozark Mountains, all along the incredible Whitaker Point Trail. This hike is not difficult but don’t worry there are plenty of other routes if you are looking for a challenging hike, such as Jerktail Loop Trail or The Broadfoot Loop Trail, which both offer stunning riverside routes! The Whitaker Point trail promises incredible views once you reach the crag at Whitaker Creek. Reaching the end of this journey is truly unforgettable, as you are faced with miles and miles of the gorgeous Whitaker Creek below you and a stunning valley stretching as far as you can see. Exploring the Ozarks and their continuous twists and turns really is one of the best ways to appreciate Arkansas for their great outdoors!

Thermal Springs and Hot Springs National Park


Another unmissable area and attribute of Arkansas is the incredible hot springs. Relaxing, natural thermal springs envelop the aptly named town of, Hot Springs! Explore this unique city and the incredible thermal hot springs which are the ideal chance to see some natural wonders, while relaxing at the same time. Feel totally at home in the great outdoors of Arkansas as you relax in a thermal spa, whilst admiring the stunning views and mountain scenery. The geothermal waters of Arkansas have restorative and re-energizing qualities, perfect after a long day of hiking or exploring. The town of Hot Springs is also perfect for exploring Hot Springs National Park, filled with an array of natural springs which supply water to the thermal spas and baths. Another ideal town for experiencing the benefits of Arkansas' rejuvenating springs is Eureka Springs, within the Ozark Mountains. This charming town has its own collection of springs throughout its winding neighbourhoods and surrounding parks. These springs in particular offer the perfect rejuvenating tonic after a long day of hiking or exploring! The most impressive spring is Basin Spring Park on Spring Street, which is the most popular place to appreciate the best of Arkansas, the amazing towns and relaxing springs. Crater of Diamonds National Park


After a relaxing day at the spa, it’s back to exploring the best that Arkansas outdoors has to offer, and one unmissable experience is a day of exploration at the Crater of Diamonds State Park! Take a trip to the world’s eighth largest diamond bearing volcanic crater, learn all about the history of diamonds in Arkansas and why they appear there at all! There are plenty of other crystals and minerals to hunt for, too. This unique and fascinating national park presents the perfect day out in nature for the whole family, and a really unforgettable day, where else can you go hunting for diamonds and then on a gorgeous hike through an amazing national park? After exploring the diamond crater, take a gorgeous hike along one of the stunning trails on offer in Crater of Diamonds State Park, such as Little Missouri River Trail or get some wildlife spotting in on the Wildlife Observation Blind Trail – Diamond National Park really does have it all and is the perfect place to explore the variety and beauty of Arkansas great outdoors! 

The Stunning Lakes


Arkansas is not only known for its stunning national parks and breathtaking views, but also its scenic and varied lakes and rivers, perfect to hike alongside or enjoy with a natural swim. One of our favourites is De Gray Lake Resort, which is its own resort state park and really lives up to its name! With miles of beautiful shores, incredible views of the lake itself, swimming beaches and bike rentals, this lake resort is the perfect way to escape into Arkansas uniquely versatile natural parks. If you are looking for adventure while staying at the lakes, there are also snorkelling trips and guided hikes to really make the most of your Arkansas lake stay.
