Tybee Island is a small barrier island, just 20 minutes from Historic Savannah, with 3 miles of Atlantic Ocean beach, backed by sea oat-covered sand dunes. Tybee is a laid-back island and a perfect place to stretch out on the sand, surf, beach-comb or fish. Take a stroll along the south-end pier or climb the Tybee Lighthouse, one of the nation's oldest lighthouses, built in 1736, with a spectacular view from the top. There is a Lighthouse Musuem, as well as Fort Screven and Fort Pulaski, a major Civil War site. The Marine Science Center features aquariums showcasing the area’s native marine life. And after all that you’ll find 25 restaurants, many featuring fresh, local seafood and warm, friendly Southern hospitality.
