Georgia is a state full of Southern Hospitality, fresh and delicious food, beautiful cultures and warm weather. Spend your days exploring charming cities and sandy beaches. A trip to Georgia will just have you waiting to return, so read our 10 top reasons why you just must visit Georgia this summer below.

Beaches

A trip to Georgia would not be complete without a visit to the golden sandy beaches that line the Georgia Coast. Visit the family friendly beach town of Tybee Island for deliciously fresh sea food, long warm days and five miles of white beaches to explore. Visit the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion for the best views of the bay or take a dolphin viewing tour or sunset cruise for the perfect Southern beach trip. Head to Cumberland Island National Seashore for days filled with adventure and wildlife, with wild horses living along the secluded beaches. Take the ferry to the island and camp out in nature for an unforgettable trip.

Food

Experience the very best of Georgia through the unbeatable food scene that flourishes throughout the state. Sample every cuisine you can imagine, visit rooftop restaurants with scenic views, try the best ice cream you have ever had at spots like Leopold’s ice Cream in Savannah or Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in Atlanta and relax after a long day of exploring the peach state with some peach ice cream from Lawson Peach Shed in Morven. It would not be a trip to Georgia without sampling the iconic fruit, the peach, which has grown in the state since the 1500s, but there is plenty of other fresh produce to explore too, take a trip to an orchard such as Lane Southern Orchards or Mark’s Melon Patch in Sasser for fresh peaches, melons and blueberries – right from the heart of Georgia’s farmland itself.

Art

There is no shortage of incredible art in Georgia and it is an unmissable part of the culture of this Southern state. Tour Atlanta for some modern, vibrant murals in Cabbagetown, which brighten the streets and reflect the people and story of the city. Or visit the streets of Savannah, with murals representing the art scene and communities of the city on every corner. The whole family will love the art scene in Athens, with larger than life bulldogs scattered around the city, and public art all over the town, which is accessible to all free of charge!

Lake Life

Georgia’s Lake County is unbeatable, and perfect for days spent having fun out on the water. Take the whole family white-water rafting in Clayton or take your time paddle boarding on the quiet lakes of Oconee and Sinclair. Explore the iconic Okefenokee Swamp with a guided boat tour accompanied by naturalists and experts who will teach you all about the mystery of the swamp. Head out onto the swamp yourself by renting a canoe or kayak and looping through the estuaries and taking in the natural wonder of the swamp.

Atlanta

Explore Georgia’s capital, Atlanta, for excellent shopping, bustling nightlife, great sport events and year round music festivals, and understand why Atlanta is a hub of entertainment in the South. A trip to Georgia simply wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Atlanta, which prides itself on its immense cultural prowess and diverse nature. Eat at world class restaurants that make up Atlanta’s diverse culinary scene, visit the Atlanta History Center, cycle along the Atlanta Beltline and hike up Arabia Mountain for that perfect sunset view. Whether you are a history fan, looking for some relaxation and shopping, or on the hunt for your next adventure – Atlanta will have something for you!

Breweries

There are incredible breweries all over the state of Georgia, with big name brands on offer in the cities, such as Sweetwater and Monday Night, for the perfect tasting experience and evening of great drinks. Head to smaller, local breweries such as Macon Beer Company or Creature Comforts in Athens for that classic Georgia experience, with tasting rooms and brewery tours made complete with locally brewed beer with the rich flavours of Georgia.

Museums

The museums in Georgia are as diverse and fascinating as the exhibitions they display. No matter what your interests are, you will be captivated by the history and power that the Museums of Georgia hold. Start in Atlanta and visit the High Museum of Art to see the official portraits of President and First Lady Obama and then experience the immersive exhibitions on show at National Center for Civil and Human Rights, which link the past civil rights movement to the progress in human rights still being made today. Don’t miss the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, with 120,000 square feet of art dedicated to the story and culture of the USA.

Cycling

Journey through the Peach State at your own pace, feel the warm air as you journey along the incredible trails throughout the cities and parks of Georgia. For Atlanta, definitely cycle the Atlanta Beltline, which is a popular route for all abilities, and loops around the whole city, giving you the perfect chance to explore the city, stopping at local bakeries and coffee houses along the way. Another favourite of ours is the Chattahoochee Riverwalk route, 15 miles of waterside views along the city of Columbus. With outstanding views of the white-water rapids, explore the nature and wildlife of Georgia alongside the riverfront.

Savannah

Visit Savannah for classic Southern Hospitality, stunning architecture and rich history. Walk the streets of Savannah draped in Spanish moss, heading to Forsyth Park, which includes the most photographed and recognisable fountain in all of Savannah. Then head to the charming Historic District, which is best explored by trolley, where you can hop on and hop off, allowing you to see as much of the city as possible. End your day on River Street, on Savannah's Riverfront and enjoy a handmade Savannah classic, Leopold’s Ice-cream, which only uses the best local ingredients!

The Golden Isles

The Golden Isles of Georgia, made up by St Simons Island, Sea Island, Little St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island, are the paradise islands nestled just on the Georgia coast. Visit for Southern hospitality, fresh seafood, boutique hotels and restaurants, and nationally acclaimed golf courses. Experience the beauty of Georgia for yourself, with Spanish moss shading the streets, and sandy beaches covering the shoreline.
