Day 3 - Charlotte to Asheville, NC, approx 130 miles.

The Great Smoky Mountains welcome you to experience the scenery and handicrafts indigenous to the Appalachians. In Chimney Rock Park, reach the top of legendary Chimney Rock for a spectacular view (reach the summit via a 26-story elevator inside the mountain!). Day 5 - Asheville to Raleigh, approx. 250 miles.

Day 7 - Raleigh to the Outer Banks, approx. 205 miles.

Travel today to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, located on the extreme eastern end of the state. These lovely barrier islands boast four lighthouses, the Wright Brothers National Memorial, wide beaches and the best surf on the East Coast. Day 9 - Outer Banks to Cape Fear, approx. 255 miles.
