NEW MUST-DOS FOR 2019, ONLY IN THE PALM BEACHES

Contributed by: Discover the Palm Beaches, Florida • Mar 18, 2019

There’s always something new happening in South Florida, and this new year is no exception.

What to See & Do

Take your golf game to the next level at Drive Shack , a hit with fun-loving to serious golfers. Virtual courses let you tee off at locations around the world, and interactive range games work for players of all skill levels and ages. Settle in to one of the climate-controlled bays with your group, and take advantage of the restaurant and bar serving craft beer, wine and cocktails. Drive Shack opens this spring in West Palm Beach.

Check out the changes at the Norton Museum of Art. In February this local cultural icon is debuting a transformative expansion that includes additional gallery space, a new sculpture garden and six 1920s-era homes restored to their historic glory to house artists in residence. When it opens February 9, look for eight new exhibitions.

Opening January 27 at Mounts Botanical Garden is TWISTED: Patrick Dougherty Entwined at Mounts Botanical Garden. Dougherty’s Stickwork projects combine the artist’s love of nature with his carpentry skills. This new exhibit will be on display through June.

Learn to hang ten before braving the swells of the Atlantic at Kelly Slater’s new Surf Ranch Florida. Take advantage of manmade waves coursing through a 16-acre lagoon at what’s sure to become a Jupiter hot spot. In addition to a learning center and training facilities, Surf Ranch Florida will host local, regional and world surfing competitions.

Where to Eat

Several new eateries popped up in The Palm Beaches late last year, and we can’t wait to taste them all.

At CPB at The Colony Palm Beach , guests can dine on dishes inspired by the sea, local seasonal ingredients and even the famed pink hotel itself. Also new to Palm Beach is Florie’s at the Four Seasons , where menu items inspired by Chef Mauro Colagreco’s Mediterranean influence are cooked by fire on either a stone hearth oven, yakitori grill or over a spit.

Batch New Southern Kitchen & Tap in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach combines comfort cuisine and “artistic Southern food”—with a heavy focus on bourbon. For vegan options, visit Antoinette’s, located in Prado Salon and Spa in West Palm, for grab-and-go options like empanadas, donuts, churros and bagels. They’re all non-GMO and gluten-free, too!

The new Crazy Uncle Mike’s in Boca Raton is more than the brewery it’s billed as. Yes, it pumps out 300 gallons of beer daily, but it also has a selection of boutique wines and full liquor. And did we mention the restaurant serving flatbreads, tacos and bites like bacon croquettes and purple potato skins topped with roe?

In Delray Beach, grab a Brooklyn Egg Cream at the new Foxworth Fountain at Delray Shores Pharmacy (which also has an “adulting menu” of craft-beer milkshakes and CBD sundaes), or hear live music at Tin Roof. Designed as a place for musicians to play and hang out when they aren’t onstage, it has two stages, as well as a patio looking out over Atlantic Avenue—and, oh yeah, it serves up Southern favorites like fried green tomatoes, po-boys and Nashville hot chicken.

Where to Stay

Looking for someplace new or different to stay on your next visit? Opening this year are Amrit Ocean Resort & Residences, Banyan Cay Resort & Golf and The Ray, bringing something new to North, Central and South Palm Beach County.

Amrit Ocean Resort & Residences on Singer Island, designed to be an immersive wellness experience, will include features like mood-enhancing aromatherapy, posture-supporting heat reflexology floors, and an outdoor spa with a meditation garden and outdoor yoga studios. It’s set for completion in late 2019.

A centrepiece of Banyan Cay Resort & Golf in West Palm Beach, is its Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, designed with five sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels. A clubhouse, spa and tennis pavilion will also be part of the property, scheduled to open over the summer.

The Ray in downtown Delray Beach’s Pineapple Grove neighborhood will include a rooftop pool and three restaurants (one on the roof) and the Cube—an elevated all-glass event space. This boutique hotel is scheduled to open in Winter 2019.
