A state of contrasts, Nevada is well know for Las Vegas, but less so for its natural beauty, picturesque scenery, old western history and array of outdoor activities. As one of the most mountainous states and the 7th largest in the USA, there is plenty outside of Las Vegas for visitors to explore. Beginning in Las Vegas, our seven night fly-drive takes you around the state, including the Loneliest Road, part of the old Pony Express Trail, through old mining towns, past wide expanses of open spaces and in to national parkland.
The itinerary below is a suggestion, but we are happy to tailor make a fly-drive to your own requirements if this is not what you are looking for.
Day 1
Arrive in Las Vegas and spend two nights in this amazing 24 hour a day city. Try your luck in the casinos, take in a world-class show, enjoy great shopping and fine dining, or simply relax by your hotel pool in the year-round sunshine.
Day 3- Collect your hire car and drive to Tonopah, approx. 210 miles.
En-route take a drive through Death Valley, stopping at Zabriskie Point for a scenic view and Badwater – the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere, at over 85 metres below sea level.
Continue on to Rhyolite, one of Nevada’s numerous ghost towns where you can visit the Goldwell Open Air Museum and enjoy some ghostly sculptures and historic buildings.
Stay one night in Tonopah, site of one of the West’s biggest silver strikes in 1900. Explore the Historic Mining Park where you can see the actual mines that created the town.
Day 4- Your destination today is Reno, approx. 240 miles.
Head north from Tonopah to Hawthorne, known as America’s most patriotic town, and then along the shores of Walker Lake to Fallon, home of the famous Top Gun Flight School.
Spend two nights in Reno - nicknamed of the ‘Biggest Little City in America’! Try the downtown white-water kayak course or if spectator sports are more your thing, stroll the Riverwalk area. Browse the boutiques and shops or enjoy the entertainment in the numerous bars, restaurants and casinos. Within easy reach of Reno are Lake Tahoe, Virginia City, Pyramid Lake and Carson City, Nevada’s Capital.
Day 6- Head east to Eureka today, approx. 245 miles.
You will be travelling along Highway 50 – the Loneliest Road in America. While it is known for its desolation, Highway 50 has been at the heart of Nevada history, particularly in Pony Express times.
Eureka prides itself on being the ‘Friendliest Town on the Loneliest Road’ and is a lovely small town with many beautifully restored historic buildings, including the Eureka Opera House, County Court House and Sentinel Museum. Overnight for one night in Eureka.
