Day 1 - Fly from the UK to Boston 

Famous for everything from the Red Sox and Paul Revere to Cheers and clam chowder, Boston is a popular destination for so many reasons. Part history lesson, part modern metropolis, the Hub offers attractions to suit every taste and interests. Explore the city on a "Hop On, Hop Off" trolley tour or walk the Freedom Trail, a well-preserved pedestrian path that weaves in and out of historic neighbourhoods. Between landmarks, you can shop the fabulous stores on Newbury Street, or browse the antique shops and distinctive red-brick buildings of Beacon Hill. Perhaps lunch in lively Quincy Market or a delicious authentic Italian meal in the North End.

Day 3 - Collect a car and drive to Freeport, ME, 125 miles. 

Maine's scenic coastline boasts small fishing villages and many lighthouses. On your way there are numerous places of interest to stop including Salem, Portsmouth, Kennebunkport and Portland. Why not take a fishing trip on a lobster boat and discover more about the region’s staple food. Freeport is located along the shores of upper Casco Bay. It is best known for its upscale outlet shopping and as home to the world famous L.L. Bean outdoor store.

Day 4 - Continue your coastal journey to Bar Harbor and Arcadia National Park, ME, approx. 135 miles

Acadia National Park is over 50 square miles and boasts miles of hiking trails, cycling and riding paths, fabulous scenery and wildlife. Take a hike to the top of Cadillac Mountain, watch the sunrise, and admire the stunning views. Bar Harbor itself is full of galleries, museums, unique shops and local restaurants. You can take a self-guided walking tour to learn more about the town and the area, or a whale watching, kayaking or lighthouse tour.

Day 6 - Head inland today to the White Mountains, NH, approx. 195 miles. 

Don’t miss a trip up Mount Washington, either by car or the cog railway. Outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and rafting abound here, as well as golf and tax free shopping at the factory outlets in North Conway. The area is dotted with small villages and towns and is well known for its beautiful scenery, covered bridges and quaint shops. A short drive away, will bring you to the Lakes region and Lake Winnipesaukee, where the film 'On Golden Pond' was set.

Day 8 - Continue on to Stowe, VT, approx. 110 miles

Travel from the White Mountains along the scenic Kancamagus Scenic Highway, stopping en route at the Flume Gorge. Stowe is a picture-postcard New England town with a quaint Main Street and is surrounded by beautiful Green Mountain scenery. There are plenty of outdoor activities here, or you could take a visit Lake Champlain or enjoy two free samples of the delicious ice-cream at the Ben and Jerry’s Factory. Journey past rivers and waterfalls, stop in towns and villages with white picket fences and covered bridges. Savour local produce in roadside cafes, or fine dining restaurants and shop to your heart’s content in antique shops and boutiques.

Day 9 - Drive to the Woodstock / Quechee area, VT, approx. 65 miles

Woodstock is the quintessential New England village and was named the “#1 small town in America” by Conde Nast Traveler. It offers scenic natural beauty, parkland and trails, historical buildings, and plenty of shops, galleries and eateries to make a walk through the village worth hours of enjoyment. Visit nearby Quechee Gorge, known as ‘Vermont’s Little Grand Canyon’ and enjoy a mile and a half hike to the rocky bottom to look back at the former train trestle bridge, which holds Rte. 4 today. Then grab some delicious Vermont produce at the Quechee Gorge Village!

Day 10 - Drive south into the Berkshire Hills, MA, approx. 110 miles

Home to many picturesque villages and rolling hills, the Berkshires are renowned for its Autumn colours, but a beautiful regardless of the season. The serenity and remoteness of the Berkshires attracted artists and authors including Melville, Hawthorne and famous illustrator Norman Rockwell and a visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge is well worthwhile. Visit the Berkshire Botanical Gardens, a botanical collection, laid out as a series of garden rooms in a woodland setting. The collections emphasize plants that are indigenous to or thrive in the Berkshires. The Mahican – Mohawk Recreation Trail follows the corridor of the historic Native American path along the Deerfield River, and offers a fabulous opportunity to see Fall Foliage.

Day 11 - Head to Mystic on the coast of Connecticut, approx. 115 miles 

The relaxed New England charm that has made Mystic a well-known destination can be found throughout the area. Enjoy this historic seaport with its world-class aquarium, shopping and choice of restaurants. Take a trip on the Mystic River, or stroll along one of the nearby beaches.

Day 12 - Head along the southern coast of Connecticut and Rhode Island to Newport, approx. 45 miles

Known for sailing, Newport is popular with water lovers, and there are a variety of boat tours available. The waterfront area boasts a number of restaurants and some great boutique shopping. The legendary mansions of Newport overlook the ocean at Narragansett Bay. Many of these spectacular homes are open for visitors and offer an inside glimpse into the lives of America's high society. The Breakers, the magnificent Vanderbilt mansion built in 1895, is one of the most elegant private homes that has ever graced the Newport shorefront.

Day 13 - End your New England holiday in Cape Cod, MA, approx. 90 miles

Explore Cape Cod with its pretty villages and abundant attractions. Chatham is probably Cape Cod at its picturesque best with smart shops, inns, small restaurants, some typically colonial-style white churches, a fishing harbour and a lighthouse with dramatic ocean views. The Cape Cod National Seashore has 40 miles of pristine sandy beach, marshes, ponds and diverse birdlife. Located at the very end of Cape Cod, Provincetown is a colourful and fascinating little town and is a great place to take a whale watching trip. Here artists live side by side with traditional fisherman and during the summer Commercial Street is filled with the most cosmopolitan mix of people, exploring the art galleries, tiny seafood restaurants, shops, narrow streets and pretty gardens. Boat trips are available to the popular summer islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.
