Day 1 Fly from the UK to Charleston
Charleston is a beautifully preserved Southern city, and having survived the Civil War, major fires, an earthquake and hurricanes, it still exudes elegance, charm and grace. Take a guided tour of the city either on foot or by horse and carriage, which will highlight the cobblestoned streets, historic homes and gardens, restored buildings, some with origins prior to the Revolution. Stop at the battery overlooking Fort Sumter where, on April 12, 1861, the first shots of the Civil War were fired. Sample some authentic Southern cuisine at some of Charleston’s fantastic restaurants, enjoy rooftop cocktails with views of the city, or shop in the unique galleries and boutiques. Make sure you visit Pawley's Island and some of the nearby plantation homes, to truly immerse yourself in the South.
Collect your rental car on arrival and stay four nights in Charleston.
