Day 1 - Arrive in Phoenix
Collect your car and make your way to the Cozy Peach at Schnepf Farms, in Mesa, approx. 40 miles
Stay two nights in a beautiful airstream or vintage trailer, all restored, maintaining as many original features as possible and with modern amenities and private bathrooms. Enjoy outdoor living with your own seating area and barbeque, plus plenty of fresh produce to buy at the farm shop.
Well known for its golf, world-class spas and designer shopping, Mesa, Scottsdale and Phoenix sit side by side and are surrounded by stunning desert scenery offering plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventure with biking, hiking, jeep tours and balloon flights to name a few.
Day 3 - Drive to the Grand Canyon, approx. 240 miles
Head north and stay two nights at Under Canvas Grand Canyon, set on 160-acres of secluded pinĚon and juniper forest, just 25 minutes from the South Rim entrance to Grand Canyon National Park. Recognised in ‘Top 25 Resorts in the US – Midwest & West’ by Condé Nast Traveler. There are a variety of glamping tent options available and the camp offers a fire-pit and onsite dining.
One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, you can tour the rim of the Grand Canyon stopping at the various look out points, or take a sightseeing flight over the rim to get the full perspective of this amazing site. The Visitor’s Center will provide you with trail maps, information on sunrise and sunset, bike rentals and current ranger programmes, as well as detailed information on the geology, flora and fauna of this spectacular National Park.
Day 5 - Drive to Zion National Park, approx. 325 miles
A longer drive today, but the scenery will be spectacular. Stay two nights at Under Canvas Zion, just 20 miles from the entrance to Zion National Park and the charming town of Springdale. Gaze at the wide-open desert skies, surrounded by views of soaring sandstone cliffs and majestic red rock. There are a variety of glamping tent options available and the camp offers a fire-pit and onsite dining.
Enjoy Zion’s deep, narrow canyons, towering cliffs, streams, waterfalls, hanging wildflower gardens and majestic, forested mountains. Hiking maps and guides are available from the Visitors Center, including for the popular Narrows. Outdoor activities abound here and there several local outfitters offering guided canyoneering, ATV tours and other options.
Day 7 - Drive to Capitol Reef, approx. 205 miles
Torrey is your base for discovering Capitol Reef National Park, labelled as one of Utah's best-kept secrets. Stay two nights at the Broken Spur Inn, in a well-appointed Conestoga Wagon. This is truly unique American West experience, staying in an exact replica of the original big wagons used by the pioneers as they crossed the prairies, traversed mountains and colonised the American West.
Capitol Reef National Park offers a myriad of slot canyons which are great for hiking and high Navajo sandstone domes with huge red rock cliffs offering amazing photo opportunities. The park surrounds a long wrinkle in the earth known as the Waterpocket Fold, with layers of golden sandstone, canyons and striking rock formations. The park has been designated a Gold Tier "International Dark Sky Park" by the International Dark-Sky Association.
Day 9 - Drive to the Lake Powell area, approx. 235 miles
Stay two nights at Under Canvas Lake Powell-Grand Staircase, perched on a Canyon Rim Plateau with views extending for miles of the expansive lake and across to Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument. A short 10-minute drive to Lone Rock Beach on Lake Powell to enjoy water sports and a swim. There are a variety of glamping tent options available and the camp offers a fire-pit and onsite dining.
Photo opportunities abound here with Tower Butte, Rainbow Bridge National Monument, the Rim Trail and Glen Canyon Dam. A boat trip on the lake is a must as well as a tour to Antelope Canyon, part of the Navajo Nation, to discover more about the mysterious and haunting beauty of the slot canyons there.
Day 11 - Drive to Monument Valley, approx. 145 miles
Monument Valley is the sacred heart of the Navajo Nation, and what better way to spend your two nights in this unique landscape than in a Cabin at the View Hotel. Each cabin features a private porch that overlooks the valley and is decorated in an old west decor.
This much filmed landscape will be visible from miles away, as you approach the park. Over the years, Monument Valley has been the setting for more Western movies than any other site in the United States. Take a Navajo guided tour deep into the Valley's backroads and sacred lands, from the Visitor’s Centre at Gouldings Lodge. The valley is host to towering sandstone rock formations that have been sculpted over time and soar 400 to 1,000 feet above the valley floor. Combined with the surrounding mesas, buttes, and desert environment, it truly is one of the natural wonders of the world.
Day 13 - Drive to Holbrook, approx. 200 miles
Your final stay will be the Wigwam Motel – an iconic Route 66 landmark that has served travellers since 1950. This unique accommodation is the ultimate in Americana, offering permanent wigwam shaped units, with a private bathroom
Holbrook is the gateway to the Petrified Forest National Park. Its distinction as a Route 66 city and the flood of travellers that it brought, led to the discovery of fascinating fossils and dinosaur bones within and near the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. Visit Meteor Crater or discover some of the nostalgia along the Mother Road, historic Route 66.
Day 15 - Return to Phoenix, approx. 185 miles
Return to Phoenix and drop off your car in time for your flight.
